The Potting Shed restaurant at Dormy House offers a third dining option.

The Lygon Bar & Grill

Since the extensive refurbishment at The Lygon Arms which was completed in Summer 2016, the Lygon Bar & Grill has become one of our favourite restaurants on date night. The great hall has always been beautiful and it’s a special space to enjoy. There is a lovely menu with plenty of choice - we particularly like the twice baked cheese souffle starter.

For main course we have had a perfectly cooked chateaubriand to share and on another occasion delicious Dover sole and an equally tasty bubble & squeak with hollandaise sauce & a poached egg. The traditional crumble pudding is scrummy and so is the tiramisu. There is also a vegan menu available as well as the vegetarian options. Choose one of the cosy lounges for a coffee or something stronger - the barkeeper will have lots of cocktails to tempt you! To book online or check the latest menus visit www.lygonarmshotel.co.uk/eat-drink/lygon-bar-grill. I’m looking forward to trying the beef wellington one day soon….

The New Tower Barn at Broadway Tower

We recently enjoyed a chilly but sunny walk at Broadway Tower and explored the lovely new Tower Barn that has opened. Just a few steps below the Deer Park you will find a beautiful Cotswold stone barn with comfy seating, delicious coffee & cakes and a shopping area with great clothing and interior furnishings. The new space at Tower Barn will also be used to offer visitors a whole new range of activities and experiences ranging from workshops to talks. There are also easy to use ‘Moustache’ E-bikes available to hire. After tasty cakes, hot drinks and entertainment by the resident pheasant we were ready for another little walk. What a great addition to Broadway Tower

Afternoon tea is a such a lovely British institution, and enjoying it in The Lygon Arms in Broadway is a real treat! On a chilly Friday afternoon we thoroughly enjoyed sitting in one of the beautifully refurbished lounges and indulging in scrumptious sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, and delicious dainty cakes! There is a choice of different teas and the optional addition of champagne or a cocktail. There is also a Chase afternoon tea menu with a Chase cocktail of the month, and vegan or gluten-free menu choices are available too. Classic afternoon tea is £25 per person and is available from 2.30pm - 5.30pm. From a birthday treat to a romantic valentine's surprise - make someone smile!

PS. As I am still on crutches due to breaking my leg I was very please that the new refurbishment has included a ladies room on the ground floor.

Buckland Manor Restaurant

We chose Buckland Manor for our date night on Tuesday as it was our Wedding Anniversary.  It's a very beautiful and romantic hotel which serves truly scrumptious food.

From the canapes with pre-dinner drinks, through all the courses and extra tasting dishes to the petit fours, everything we ate was delicious, interesting and stunningly presented. I chose Oxford blue pana cotta with Buckland vegetable and a nettle pesto to start; melt in the mouth Duck with with cripsy wonton for my main course; and raspberry soufflé for dessert.

Head Chef Will Guthrie and his team are certainly well deserving of the ‘Hotel Restaurant of the Year’ award they won at the Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards earlier this year.

Excellent service and even a pretty sunset through the window by our table made for a lovely and memorable evening.

Russells of Broadway - A restaurant with rooms

It was a date night on Monday and we went to Russells of Broadway for dinner. The gorgeous building is the former showroom of Sir Gordon Russell's furniture, and for warm days it has a lovely terrace from which to watch the world go by....

Head Chef Neil Clarke uses fresh local produce to create modern British dishes. We really enjoyed the Prix Fixe menu which is extremely good value at £22 for 3 courses.

I chose salmon fishcake with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce (above) then Poussin and David had the ham hock with peas (above) followed by Gurnard. Each dish was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff are just the right mix of attentive and friendly.

I'm know for my love of puddings and the white chocolate mousse with honeycomb was the best I have ever eaten! David enjoyed his cheese and we will definitely be back again soon.

I would recommend booking a table as it can get very busy. If you would like to stay Russell's has 7 stunning guest rooms and suites.

See Cotswold Lavender in bloom

We went up to  Cotswold Lavender just outside Snowshill on Saturday and really enjoyed wandering around the large display field which is in full bloom and can be seen until 9th August this year.  A beautiful sea of lilac/blue flowers with a wonderful perfume, busy bees enjoying the pollen on a warm summer’s day,  and lots of smiling faces.

There is also a lovely gift shop and cafe – we succumbed to Lavender Honey and Cotswold Lavender body lotion. Well worth a visit - you only need to allow about an hour....
